Q: Which "Designer Yard" plan
is right for me?
A: We have provided design concepts to meet every
grade from low to high in maintenance and water consumption.
Browse Our Gallery to read which yard fits your personal
needs best.
Q: Why do your call you plans Designer Landscapes?
A: We have chosen the term Designer Landscapes because
we have created not only great looking designs, but
designs with a theme. We have also created add-ons
to your yard such as benches, arbors and water features
which fit nicely with the style and theme of each design.
Q: Is landscaping a good investment?
A: Yes, but don't just take our word
for it. Read these articles below.
Q: What will I get in my Designer Landscape package?
A: We provide a multi page PDF
document which takes you from the early stage of
marking out your yard, to installing the correct
soil, to placing your plants in a correct fashion
for sunlight. Included with your plans will be an
exclusive access password to the “MY
YARD” content of our web site which has full
descriptions, photos, care and feeding, and weather
reports for gardening in your area.
Q: Why is your landscape plans less expensive than
a traditional landscaper designer?
A: Our plans are less expensive because we have done
all of the hard work up front by selecting the plants
and developing the initial plans. When we receive your
order we modify the layout of our plans to fit the
shape and size of your yard. In the end, the plant
inventory and layout is specific to your yard.
Q: What does plant hardiness mean?
A: Plant heartiness means that
we have picked out plants that do well in summer
and in winter. We try to pick plants that have a
good survivability rate. We don’t include a
lot of annuals in our plans because they are seasonal.
All of our flowering plants are an evergreen variety
or a bulb that will give you seasonal color all year
long.
Q: What are my options when installing my yard?
A: You can either follow the steps we provide in our
Designer Landscape package or you can take the design
package to your local landscaper and based on the plan
provided, they should be able to give you an accurate
estimate of the cost of plant inventory and labor required
for install.
Q: How costly are irrigation systems?
A: Typically irrigation systems can cost between $2,000
and $3,000 depending on the size of your yard. If you
have a smaller yard you can avoid the extra cost and
install a simple drip irrigation system.
Q: What is the importance of ground lighting?
A: Ground lighting is great because it gives you the
pleasure of enjoying your yard in the evening. Dramatic
ground lighting can create nice focal points for your
yard, such as lighting up the canopy of a tree or focused
lighting on a water feature.
Q: How much topsoil should I have under my grass?
A: We recommend you order enough for 8 inches of soil.
Because soil does compact, we recommend the finished
product is no lower than approximately 6 inches.
Q: Why is it important to have at least 2-3 inches
of mulch in my beauty beads?
A: Having enough mulch not only keeps the weeds out
of your beauty beads, but it also helps hold in water
to help prevent a drought environment for your plants.
Q: Can I swap out any plants that are in my plan?
A: Yes. Once you receive your plans, if you wish to
change out a plant, simply mark it up on your inventory
sheet and your landscaper will be able to easily identify
where you would like your new plant.
Q: What is the best way to get landscaping materials?
A: We suggest you take your Designer Landscape plan
to your local nursery so they can help gather all of
your plants and help order your topsoil, bark, gravel
and sod. Nurseries are also great for answering specific
questions about installing any plant or tree.
Q: Landscaper vs. Do-it-yourself?
A: This is up to you, but if you are busy like most
folks, turning your yard over to a professional landscaper
will give you a finished yard much faster enabling
you to enjoy your new yard immediately.
Q: How long have you been doing landscape design?
A: We have been doing landscape design since 1988.
Having grown up in a family owned landscape supply
company and being a graduate of and Designer by trade,
I have learned the art and enjoyment of landscaping.
